The San Antonio River Walk

Located in the heart of the San Antonio metropolitan area, the River Walk is one of many landmarks that make this city stand out. The River Walk is a man-made canal that offers visitors an opportunity to experience nature without leaving the city. Whether you are looking for a place to eat or just want to take in some fresh air, there is never a shortage of things to do on the River Walk. 

Paid parking can be found in the surrounding streets, though there is no fee to enter the River Walk itself. Not only will you get a chance to experience all that downtown San Antonio has to offer while enjoying fresh air and sunshine on your walk, but you may even see some wildlife! Birds of prey are often seen flying overhead or resting in the trees, there are even turtles in some parts of the River Walk! 

The downtown area is home to countless shops and restaurants. There are several bars where you can order a drink while watching boats go by. If you’re feeling peckish, have no fear because San Antonio offers all sorts of different foods that will keep your stomach full! From Mexican to Italian, there are plenty of choices for every taste. 

Families can find a lot to do on the River Walk as well! There is no shortage of kid-friendly activities in San Antonio. Throughout the entire length, you will have an opportunity to stop and take pictures with many different statues depicting famous people or events that occurred in San Antonio’s rich history. There is also a children’s museum that offers plenty of hands-on activities to keep the kids entertained for hours! 

San Antonio River Walk has so much to offer, you won’t know where to begin once you arrive! As long as you can find parking and get past security, nothing will stop your experience from being memorable.    

Restaurants and shops within the San Antonio River Walk

There are endless opportunities for shopping and eating within the San Antonio River Walk. Restaurants include: Japanese, Greek, Mexican, Italian, American cuisine restaurants can all be found in this area! If you’re not feeling up to a sit-down meal there is also much different food stands where you can grab a quick snack or drink while walking around the San Antonio metropolitan area. 

Shops range from souvenir shops to jewelry stores! You will be sure to find something that you like, whether it’s a keepsake of your visit or something for yourself back home. There are plenty of choices here so make sure to bring cash if possible because many places do not take credit cards!   

How to get to the San Antonio River Walk

Take exit 191B from I-410 E. Once on the access road, stay to the right and follow signs for Nueva St/S Presa St. You will be headed westbound towards S Presa St once you pass over W Cesar Chavez Blvd (the street after Afton Rd). Continue down this road until you reach S Alamo St. Turn right onto the road and you will see a parking lot to your left after heading southbound for about two blocks! Follow signs towards River Walk Parking Garage.
